S2 E1 Chaco Canyon

Chaco Canyon is without doubt the finest ancient architecture within the modern United States.  The Ancestral Pueblo built it over a 300 year period between 850-1150 CE, but the strange thing is – they barely lived there.  Join me as we discuss the “Chaco Phenomenon”.

Nice lecture on the ancient Pueblo culture in Chaco Canyon, I am going to check out the related lectures (with graphics and photos) on The Great Courses. I visited it in 2019 along with Aztec and Salmon Ruins to the north. I observed some of the archaeoastronomy observations at each of the sites that Ed talked about. I have yet to visit Chimney Rock, but plan to. Looking forward to the next podcast.

Really enjoyed the podcast on Chaco Canyon. It reinforced what I learned watching the Great Courses Plus on Ancient Civilizations of North America. Going to Chaco Canyon is on my bucket list. Hard to believe that I haven’t made it there yet. Please let me know when you are taking the next tour to that region, and count me in!

I visited Chaco Canyon by myself last summer, and it was an incredible experience. It felt like I had a special connection with this place, like having had numerous past lives there. I think ancient civilizations from various cultures would meet there for large events with trading and ceremony certain times of year. They’d inhabit the area for a few months as they intermingled with tribes from all across north America.

Enjoying your podcast. Thank you for sharing! Sending gratitude from Fort Collins, Colorado
