This story reminds all of us about the miracle we somehow made it to adulthood, and more or less fits the format. Perfect that ‘Jane’ may have become a career spy. By the way, I was able to visit Chiapas and Peten this winter for a couple months. There is a lovely new giant acrylic portrait of Moi at the restaurant at Panchan, completed this winter. It is very strange to walk around the ruins of dozens of abandoned rooms at Panchan, decorated with the wonderful mystic paintings made less than 20 years ago, and it gives a perspective on the colors still intact at Bonampak. Also I was able to explore just a bit the rugged areas around Templo Olvidado with your map in hand, and the map’s nice neat corners of buildings seem hard to reconcile with the living jungle, I’d be amused to learn how exactly you go from a pile of stones to the tidy corners shown on the map. Looking forward to more adventure stories next fall! Also, would have liked to visit Tonina, which is still closed with private landholders making it impossible to visit, and I think about the private land sales that Moi was able to prevent at Palenque.
